Looking for love: Animals that mate for life

Love was in the air here on planet Earth this past Valentine’s day, as in the natural world, choosing one partner for life remains largely the province of birds. Experts estimate that only five percent of all mammal species (excluding humans) are believed to be monogamous, compared to nearly 90 percent of all bird species. The wildlife in this gallery come as close as they can to finding that one special partner (or many partners), all the while providing our planet with beauty and diversity.
