A man walks past an electronic display at the Athens Stock Exchange Monday, Aug. 29, 2011. Greece's second and third largest lenders, Eurobank and Alpha Bank, on Monday announced plans to merge in order to better withstand the country's acute financial crisis. The deal caused shares to surge on the Athens Stock Exchange, with the banking sector as a whole up nearly 20 percent and National Bank of Greece, the country's largest lender, up 29 percent.
