Former South African president Nelson Mandela was discharged from a Pretoria hospital on Sept. 1, after spending 86 days, including his birthday on July 18, for a recurring respiratory illness. Mandela will continue to receive intensive care from the same doctors who looked after him in hospital. His home has been reconfigured to accommodate the requirements of his treatment. (AFP)
