Stephen Colbert: Super Pac founder In 2011, during the Republican primary, comedian and faux conservative talk show host Stephen Colbert did something that surprised even him: He formed a real political action committee. "I didn't intend to have a super PAC," Colbert said in October during a rare, out-of-character interview on "Meet The Press" on NBC. "I intended to make a joke about Tim Pawlenty's unbelievable over-the-top ad. ... And I couldn't figure out how to end it." Colbert's super PAC raised more than $1.2 million, according to Federal Election Commission filings. OpenSecrets.org reports that the Colbert PAC spent just $80,000 of it’s haul--$31,843 to support Herman Cain's candidacy, and more than $46,000 against Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich.
