One of the most questionable decisions Microsoft made last year was to initially only offer the Surface in its own retail stores, a move that seems especially strange because Microsoft only had 32 outlets nationwide last holiday season. Bob Venero, the CEO of Future Tech, says that Microsoft is still refusing to let smaller resellers carry the Surface and is instead asking them to bring interested Surface buyers to Microsoft's own locations. Microsoft's debut Surface RT tablet hasn't been the runaway success the company was hoping for, so Microsoft recently slashed the price of the tablet. The sleek Windows RT slate now starts at just $350, down 30% from the old $500 base price, but sales aren't expected to pick up much despite the drastically reduced pricing. Microsoft has sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder calling on him to personally review a gag order that prevents the company and others from further discussing the secret national security requests for customer emails, Skype calls and documents stored on its servers. less
