Mounted police guard the rail tracks near Leitstade , northern Germany Thursday Nov. 24, 2011 prior to a nuclear waste transport passing through the area. German police are preparing a big security operation to protect a shipment of nuclear waste being moved to a storage site this weekend , as protests are expected despite a decision to speed up the country's exit from nuclear energy. Police said this year's operation will be on a par with the one mounted to protect the last shipment a year ago - with some 19,000 officers on duty. The waste will be transported from a reprocessing plant in France to the Gorleben site in northern Germany - a traditional focus of Germany's anti-nuclear movement.
