New Yorkers savor big sodas, the target of a city ban
A ban on most
sugary sodas larger than 16 ounces would have gone into effect Tuesday in
New York City, but a state judge blocked the ban on Monday. Had the ban survived the court challenge, some purveyors of sweetened drinks would have remained exempt -- for
example, 7-Eleven's Big Gulp would have been still legal, because the chain is classified as a grocery store and therefore under state
jurisdiction -- many restaurants, movie theaters, bodegas and pizza-delivery
joints would have no longer offered larger sizes. Yahoo! News asked New Yorkers to snap
photos of themselves with what could have been their last large soda from their
favorite establishment and briefly tell us what they think of the proposed ban.
