As I walked up to the McDonald's counter and ordered a large soda, I knew what I was getting myself into, Mr. Bloomberg: 310 calories of pure delight after a long day of work.

Every day for the past couple of weeks, all I could hear all over the news media and in the press is Mayor Michael Bloomberg's plan to ban most sugary drinks larger than 16 ounces.

This isn't a good idea. If Mayor Bloomberg's ban goes into effect, many would miss the times they left work, tired and stressed, and headed to their favorite fast food joint to grab a meal and a large soda. Many are going to miss the days of munching and slurping in calories. Who hasn't felt like drinking a nice big soda?

I believe there are other, better approaches than a wide ban. Let's start with obesity and health education and work from there. less
