This NOAA satellite image taken Friday, December 3, 2010 at 12:45 PM EST shows cloudy skies over the Northern half of the country, and sunny skies over the South. A trough of low pressure moves over the Northern Rockies and into the Northern Plains, bringing rain and snow showers with it. In the Northeast, flow around a low pressure system over eastern Canada continues pushing cold air over the Great Lakes. This allows for lake effect snow to develop along the eastern shores of the Great Lakes. This produces periods of heavy snowfall with accumulation ranging between 3-5 inches. less
