This NOAA satellite image taken Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at 01:45 AM EST shows primarily clear skies in place over the eastern United States, but clouds were prevalent just offshore as cold air was overspreading the warm waters of the Gulf Stream. Meanwhile, a potent storm system traversing the Northern Plains was spreading areas of snow, freezing rain and rain into the Upper Midwest. Widespread clouds associated with this system had advanced as far east as the western Great Lakes and Lower Ohio Valley. This system promises to produce a nuisance snowfall across parts of the Midwest, Great Lakes and Northeast the next couple of days. (AP Photo/Weather Underground) less
