This NOAA satellite image taken Monday, June 06, 2011 at 01:45 PM EDT shows mostly clear conditions over the eastern half of the nation as a ridge of high pressure prevails over much of the region with hot temperatures. Daytime highs in the Deep South reach into the mid-90s and above. High humidity over the region triggers high heat indices near and exceeding 105 degrees. In addition to heat, poor air quality is possible in metropolitan areas as the system keeps pollutants near the surface. Showers and thunderstorms continue to form along the Central Gulf Coast and in the southern Mid-Atlantic. (AP PHOTO/WEATHER UNDERGROUND) less
