President Barack Obama spoke out on the crisis in Egypt, saying he's "concerned" by recent events. He went on to say "The United States strongly condemns the steps that have been taken by Egypt's interim government and security forces." President Barack Obama said the United States "deplores" the violence against civilians in the recent Egyptian military crackdown against protests in Cairo. As the death toll from Egypt violence rose to 525, the government declared a nationwide state of emergency and a nighttime curfew. Since the July 3 coup that ousted former president Mohammed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood, Christians have faced a spike in violent attacks that Egyptian authorities have not prevented. less
