When black South Africans were forced to move from cities and farms to desolate land with no infrastructure, hundreds of children died of malnutrition and cholera. David Russell, a priest posted nearby, was angered by what he saw and staged a hunger strike. Although he was jailed, his actions scored a modest victory. Michelle Miller reports. less
