People hold a placard up at a protest against jumps racing amid calls for the sport to be banned after seven people were taken to hospital when a horse leapt over a fence and plunged into the crowd at a popular carnival, in Melbourne on May 6, 2011. The riderless Banna Strand veered off course and jumped into watching spectators at the Grand Annual Steeplechase at Warrnambool in Victoria state on May 5, 2011. The incident in the eight horse race, in which only two finished with their riders still onboard, came with the sport under close scrutiny with every horse injury pointed to as an example of cruelty. It followed a horse having to be put down after falling in the first hurdle race of the day at Warrnambool. AFP PHOTO/William WEST (Photo credit should read WILLIAM WEST/AFP/Getty Images) less
