Photo of the Day

In this May 10, 2012 photo, Fatima Munshi sits in her home in Khandwa, India. One day in 1987, Munshi's 5-year-old son, Saroo, was still curled up on the hard wooden seat of the Indian train, just as he was when he'd drifted to sleep. The rattle of the train was loud and steady, just as it always was when he rode with his big brother, Guddu. But Guddu wasn't there, and the landscape flashing past the window looked nothing like home. He was alone in the world. So began an accidental new life that would take him first to the desperate streets of Calcutta, then to a government center for abandoned children, and finally to an adoptive family - in far-off Australia. As he thrived there, he never forgot his home in a poor Indian town whose name he couldn't remember. And his memory burned with thoughts of his mother, who searched in vain for him but believed a fortuneteller's promise that they'd meet again.
