By Christopher Davidson, Army During my deployment, I was selected by the Army to attend Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Ga. Unfortunately, I was not allowed to leave Iraq to attend school, which was a crushing blow to my psyche: I had full intentions to remain in the Army and become an officer. However, interestingly enough, I wound up meeting a female service member in Iraq, who was serving in the U.S. Air Force. We married after I returned home to Texas. Looking back now, it is amazing how I went to war to fight for my country and wound up finding love instead. Mellissa was only there for four months out of my total deployment, but we wound up spending much of our time together after duty hours (working out together, training for ruck marches, etc.). We quickly became very close. As you could imagine, I took a lot of hazing from my buddies about spending so much time with an "Air Force chick," but it was all worth it. less
