The "Pointe du Hoc" is pictured Tuesday, April 8, 2014 near Caen, Normandy, France. It was the highest point during WWII between Utah Beach and and Omaha Beach. The Germans fortified the area with concrete bunkers and gun pits. On D-Day (June 6, 1944) the United States Army successfully assaulted Point du Hoc after scaling the cliffs. France is preparing to mark the 70th anniversary of the D-Day invasion which took place on June 6, 1944. (AP Photo/David Vincent) less
