Police attack at dock workers during a protest outside the Finance Ministry in Athens, Thursday Nov. 4, 2010. The protesters are demanding improved benefits for their unemployed colleagues. Greece narrowly avoided bankruptcy in May, after its European partners and the International Monetary Fund agreed to provide a total euro130 billion ($185 billion) in rescue loans over three years. In return, the governing Socialists implemented painful austerity measures, which included a freeze on most public hirings and non-renewal of contract workers' employment. less
