The United States Supreme Court delivered a pretty crushing blow to inequality.The high court determined that the federal Defense of Marriage Act, signed by President Bill Clinton in 1996, is unconstitutional. In addition, the Supreme Court decided it could not take up a challenge to Proposition 8, the 2008 ballot measure in California that outlawed same-sex marriage, meaning that gay marriage is now legal in the Golden State. Donna Brazile says President Obama must persuade a polarized Congress to preserve the landmark law that protects citizens from discriminatory anti-voter rules that emerge every election cycle.
