Warsaw (Poland), 01/08/2015.- Polish veterans of the Uprising salute before laying a wreath during a ceremony to commemorate the 71st anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising, at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Warsaw, Poland, 01 August 2015. The Warsaw Uprising, a major World War II operation by the Polish resistance Home Army to liberate Warsaw from Nazi Germany, broke out on 01 August 1944 and continued for 63 days, costing the lives of between 150,000 and 200,000 civilians and about 18 thousand insurgents. After the failure of the uprising, the Nazis expelled the remaining inhabitants from the city and methodically blew it up, destroying it almost completely.
