Priceline has agreed to acquire OpenTable in a deal worth $2.6 billion. The company, which primarily focuses on online travel bookings, has a history of expansion through acquisition. Back in 2012, Priceline purchased Kayak, another online travel bookings site, and two years prior to that, it bought out RentalCars.com. This purchase is slightly outside its regular purview, though Priceline assures it is a natural extension for the brand into restaurant marketing services. OpenTable currently boasts bookings for more than 15 million diners each month across more than 31,000 restaurants. The deal is expected to close by the end of September. less
