Prince George doesn't turn 1 year old until next month, and he's already got a substantial new birthday present: It's his own 5-pound royal coin, worth about $136, and the first ever to be minted for a royal on his first birthday. The Royal Mint announced in London today "the nation's gift to Prince George," a 5-pound crown in sterling silver, featuring the royal arms and the year 2014. Only 7,500 will be minted and sold for 80 pounds each, or $136 at the current exchange rate. The coin was approved by George's parents, Prince William and Duchess Kate, and great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, plus the Chancellor of the Exchequer (the British equivalent of secretary of the Treasury). The Royal Mint said, the coins minted for George's birth, on July 22, 2013, were a huge success, selling out immediately. less
