The Royal Air Force (RAF) dropped a second round of aid to thousands of Iraqi civilians trapped on Mount Sinjar, Iraq, on August 12. A total of 3,180 reusable water purification containers and 816 solar lamps were dropped overnight, according to the UK Department for International Development. The British government announced that it would provide a further £3 million in funding for charities working in northern Iraq on August 12. It ruled out military intervention in the region.
