SIMMESPORT, LA - MAY 18: Earl Robinson Sr. (L) sits on the front porch of his shotgun house with cousin Luke Brown Junior 3rd near the flooding Atchafalaya River on May 18, 2011 in Simmesport, Louisiana. Robinson's house is protected by a levee and he isn't concerned about potential flooding in his neighborhood. The Morganza Spillway floodgates were opened for the first time in nearly forty years to lower the crest of the flooding Mississippi River as it is partially diverted into the Atchafalaya Basin. Heavy rains have left the ground saturated, rivers swollen, and have caused widespread flooding in Louisiana. Mississippi, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Arkansas.
