Secretary Karen Ross of the California Department of Food and Agriculture at right front, talks about work by the state’s Drought Task Force at the University of California, Merced, on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 in Merced, Calif. Ross and other task force members briefed Central Valley farmers on their efforts and took their input. Behind Ross from right to left are Mark Starr of the Department of Public Health, Mark Ghilarducci of the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, Felicia Marcus of the State Water Resources Control Board and John Laird of the California Natural Resources Agency. Two recent storms that washed over bone-dry California delivered welcome rain and snow, but officials from the state's Drought Task Force said Tuesday that much more is needed to alleviate the crisis.
