Somali civilians fleeing fighting in the Afgoye corridor pass across a checkpoint in Mogadishu, Somalia,Thursday, May 24, 2012. Thousands of people in speeding trucks or pulling carts piled high with clothes and furniture fled a region north of Mogadishu on Thursday, as the sound of gunfire and explosions rocked the region. The Afgoye corridor has been a temporary shelter for hundreds of thousands of people seeking relief from fighting in the capital after Ethiopian troops entered Somalia in 2007 to fight al-Shabab militants. This week African Union and Somali troops moved into the Afgoye corridor for the first time in years to pursue al-Shabab. (AP Photo/Farah Abdi Warsameh) less
