Supernovas captured in backyard

This incredible series of photographs were shot from a back garden and show spectacular clouds of gas surrounding stars. Eric Coles, 70, captured the incredible images, which are normally invisible to the naked eye, over the course of the last year from his home in Illinois.

Using different filters on his five telescopes, he was able to bring out the shapes and patterns created by different gases that have absorbed energy from nearby stars. (Caters News)
