An unnamed teenage boy's hand got stuck in an escalator at the Smithsonian Metro station in Washington D.C. this week. It took 40 minutes for him to be freed - four of his fingers had been trapped. The 14-year-old is a tourist from Canada who was riding down the escalator when one of his flip-flops got caught at the bottom. When he tried to retrieve it, his fingers got caught. He was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority actually warns its riders to not wear flip-flops on escalators. less
