The 150th Anniversary of the Thirteenth Amendment

While President Abraham Lincoln declared all slaves free in the Emancipation Proclamation on Jan. 1, 1863, the 13th Amendment to abolish slavery wasn’t adopted to the United States Constitution until Dec. 18, 1865, after being passed by the Senate on April 8, 1864, and by the House on Jan. 31, 1865.
