The Vikings Exhibition

What does the word Viking bring to mind? Ruthless warrior and merciless invader? Or prosperous farmer and entertaining merchant? You think you know the Vikings ... but you have no idea. Explore the legendary, often-misunderstood culture like never before with a striking display of more than 500 groundbreaking archaeological discoveries (many never before seen outside of Europe). The Vikings Exhibition shows us why — even 1,000 years later — Viking culture still captivates our imagination.

Encompassing the largest gallery space at Discovery Times Square, the Vikings Exhibition challenges the reputation of Vikings as fierce raiders with horned helmets with an impressive look into their domestic life and death rituals, powerful mythology and symbolism, and the importance of travel and trade. Visitors will experience the life of a Viking firsthand through interactive elements like a virtual boat excavation and actual games played by the Vikings themselves. You will marvel at the Vikings’ exquisite workmanship in jewelry, metalwork like swords and armor, and other objects made from glass, bone and amber, religious iconography with the earliest Scandinavian crucifix and striking silver pendants representing the pagan Norse gods — all dating back as far as A.D. 750-1100.
