Officials say a potentially dangerous storm threatens the southeastern Virginia and North Carolina coasts this holiday weekend. Tropical Storm Arthur is poised to roll in overnight Thursday, and authorities say mobilizing so many visitors to safety in a short amount of time is key. North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory said at a news conference Wednesday afternoon: “Our major goal is to ensure that no lives are lost during this upcoming storm." He warned people, quote: “Don’t put your stupid hat on" cautioning people to heed the warnings from officials, particularly when it comes to dangers of rough surf and flooding. Forecasters said Arthur could intensify into a Category 1 hurricane by late Thursday, although it should begin lurching off the coast by Friday morning. Its projected path has emergency management officials watching closely. less
