This NOAA satellite image taken Friday, April 27, 2012 at 1:45 PM EDT shows clouds cover the Northern and Central U.S. as a low pressure system moves off the Northern Rockies and into the Northern Plains. Flow around this system creates a series of frontal boundaries, which produces scattered showers and thunderstorms from the Dakotas through the Mid-Mississippi River Valley. These storms have turned severe with strong winds, large hail, and periods of heavy rainfall. The back side of this system allows for a few snow showers to persist over the Northern Rockies.
