U.S. stock futures edged higher Thursday, following news that fewer people applied for unemployment benefits last week. Thirty minutes before the U.S. stock market opened, Dow Jones industrial average futures rose seven points to 16,825. The Fed saw improvement in the job market and said it planned to keep short-term interest rates low. And Rite Aid Corporation said Thursday that its quarterly earnings plunged 55 percent, as higher drug costs lowered profits. less
