YICHANG, CHINA - APRIL 25: (CHINA OUT) Farmers carry lettuce to a truck in a field on April 25, 2011 in Yichang, Hubei Province of China. Vegetable prices have plunged throughout China following a bumper harvest in many regions, resulting in devastating losses for farmers. The Chinese government has introduced measures to help relieve pressure on farmers by encouraging supermarkets, schools and canteens to purchase direct from the farmers, and allowing extra market stalls to allow direct sale of produce. Despite these initiatives by the government farmers are still left with crops that are rotting due to the oversupply. (Photo by ChinaFotoPress/Getty Images) less
