Scientists working at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration documented thousands of walruses packed onto a barrier island beach 700 miles northwest of Anchorage in past days. The gathering of walruses on shore is a phenomenon usually associated with the loss of summer sea ice as the climate warms. This video, produced by the United States Geological Survey, documents walrus movement in the Alaskan Arctic region. Credit: usgs. less
