Actress Angelina Jolie made her debut before the U.N.'s most powerful body as a special envoy for refugees Monday and urged the world's nations to make the fight against rape in war a top priority. She told the Security Council that "hundreds of thousands ? if not millions ? of women, children and men have been raped in conflicts in our lifetimes." Activists said that Syrian rebels battled President Bashar al-Assad's forces in and around the northern city of Aleppo, seeking to reverse gains made by loyalist forces in the commercial hub over the last two months. The Lebanese National News Agency reports 12 soldiers have been killed. Lebanese army units battling followers of a hard-line Sunni Muslim cleric closed in on a mosque complex where armed supporters of the cleric were holed up. This is the latest bout of violence in Lebanon linked to the conflict in neighboring Syria. less
