Supporters of ousted Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi held mass demonstrations to show opposition to what they described as "the heinous coup against popular will. Backed by Lebanese Hezbollah militants, Syrian troops unleashed some of the civil war's heaviest bombardments on the central city of Homs , pounding opposition-held areas with artillery and airstrikes for the sixth straight day, activists said. Egyptian troops opened fire on supporters of ousted President Mohammed Morsi, who were marching on a headquarters of the Republican Guard. At least one demonstrator was severely wounded, as tens of thousands chanting "down with military rule" protested around the country to return the Islamist leader to office. less
