Assange entered the embassy on Monday in an attempt to gain political asylum to prevent him from being extradited to Sweden to face allegations of sex crimes, which he denies. In a telephone interview with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) from inside the embassy, the 40-year-old Australian said he did not know when the decision would be made. WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been holed up at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London for more than a year. Assange says he will not leave his sanctuary, even if Sweden stops pursuing sexual assault claims against him because he fears he will be deported to the U.S. over the publication of hundreds of thousands of military and diplomatic documents on his website.
