Yang Jianli , a Tiananmen Square activist in 1989, speaks in Oslo, Norway on Wednesday Dec. 8, 2010. Yang has been appointed by the wife of Liu Xiaobo to be the peace award winner's representative and spokesman in Norway during the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony and activities in Norway. China has vilified the 54-year-old democracy advocate, called the Nobel prize choice an effort by the West to contain its rise, disparaged his supporters as "clowns," and launched a campaign to persuade countries not to attend Friday's ceremony in Oslo. Eighteen countries, including Serbia, Russia and Pakistan, have turned down the Nobel committee's invitation.(AP Photo /Berit Roald, Scanpix Norway) less
