    Piden a fiscal de Alabama capacitar a policías en ley migratoria

    MONTGOMERY, Alabama, EE.UU. (AP) — Grupos de derechos civiles pidieron el lunes al fiscal general de Alabama, Luther Strange, indicar a los oficiales lo que pueden hacer para determinar la condición migratoria de las personas que son detenidas por infracciones de tránsito.

    Mary Bauer, directora legal del Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), exhortó a Strange en una conferencia telefónica a explicar cuándo los policías pueden detener personas y por cuánto tiempo ante el fallo de la Corte Suprema de Estados Unidos sobre la ley migratoria de Arizona.

    Bauer indicó que representantes del SPLC, la Asociación Nacional para la Defensa de los Derechos Civiles y del Centro Nacional de Leyes de Inmigración enviaron el lunes una carta a Strange para pedirle las directrices.

    Agregó que los grupos han recibido reportes de personas detenidas indefinidamente mientras la policía verifica su estatus migratorio.

    Strange no ha opinado al respecto e indicó que su oficina seguirá cumpliendo la ley.

    "Tengo gran confianza en que nuestros policías están bien capacitados y que aplicarán apropiadamente la ley migratoria con su acostumbrado nivel de profesionalismo. El racismo no es y no será tolerado en Alabama", dijo Strange.
