Think of it as the Rovio version of Wario Land.

According to the game's Twitter page, Bad Piggies will be released on September 27 for iOS, Android and Mac. The app will come to Windows 8 and PC soon after.

Since its launch in December 2009, Angry Birds has been downloaded more than 1 billion times across all platforms and editions.

The game has become a bonafide brand with licensing deals for everything from toys and clothing to pencil cases to jewelry. Meanwhile, Rovio has set its sights on franchising Angry Birds in film and television.

Still, as much as we love Angry Birds -- we have to admit, it has started to feel a bit stale. That's why we're excited about Bad Piggies. Flipping the game on its head -- so to speak -- and putting players in control of the pigs, could be just the right move to keep the franchise on top.
