Growth and change in the search industry dictate shift in SEMPO's educational focus
Wakefield, Mass (PRWEB) February 21, 2012
As of today, February 21, 2012, SEMPOInstitute.com will be unavailable and courses will no longer be offered. People who previously purchased courses will have access to them until March 31, 2012 by logging in at http://courses.sempoinstitute.com with their existing user Ids and passwords, and they can complete any course they have not yet completed by that date.
“Closing SEMPO Institute allows SEMPO to focus our resources in manners that best meet the search community’s needs," said Chris Boggs, president of SEMPO. "Many of the SEMPO Institute contributors now teach through other educational endeavors. The use of our non-profit organization’s resources to maintain material available elsewhere does not seem wise.“
In the five years since SEMPO released its first online course through SEMPO Institute, Fundamentals of Search Marketing, much has changed. In January 2007 the industry had few educational options. The industry has matured from $9.4 Billion to $19.3 Billion in size. Search Marketing has moved from IT departments to Marketing departments in most corporations. The professions that require search knowledge have expanded to include copywriters, public relations, web designers, and general marketers, and the educational offerings are growing in those channels accordingly.
