Pipe bombs found after La. man wrecks pickup truck

LOCKPORT, La. (AP) — When a pickup truck crashed in southeastern Louisiana, authorities made a surprising discovery: 10 pipe bombs.

Trooper Bryan Zeringue said the one-vehicle rollover crash happened around 7:30 a.m. Monday.

As emergency crews were trying to right the truck, they noticed the devices. Zeringue said nine of the bombs were made with plastic pipe and one was made with galvanized metal pipe.

The driver was hospitalized with serious injuries. Authorities said he was a Louisiana resident in his 50s, but withheld his name. They also refused to speculate on what he intended to do with the bombs — or to say if he had revealed that to investigators.

A bomb disposal team took the devices to an empty field and detonated them after burying them. Federal authorities are helping investigate.

And once again, for south Louisiana this is strange how? I f you are heading out to the marsh you would be packing, just a fact of life in the marsh, law ends where water begins.

I have been living in Louisiana for 7 years now and I would say the pipe bombs were probably for fishing purposes. If this was back home in California I would think "What the heck is this guy doing with pipe bombs in his truck!". Hey, this state still has real fireworks that shoot into the air. If terrorist ever come to lLouisiana they won't make it far. Guns, bow hunters, allegator hunters, the fire ants, the red wasps, and a whole lot of armed and strong people would stop them. It is a culture thing I had to learn.

been trying to explain that very same thing to these folks. I lived down there and while it is different they are good people. Laws get bent from time to time but when you have to eat so be it!

In Louisianna, "he needed killin' " is a legal defense.

You are right. It took me a while to get out of the over bearing California mode of " You can't do that". The first firework I lit here was a rocket. I thought it would be like back home, a few sparks and it's over. NOOO 1 This thing shot in the air and it was gone! The people here are friendly and down to earth. Work hard, take it slow, and enjoy life. They are really outdoor people to. I feed the squirrels and my neighbor shoots them.LOL. Culture differnces.

With explosives??? Real mountain men had no such thing and could feed themselves.

Most likely Bubba was goin' to clean up them stumps in his yard. All you people worried about the fire dept and others risking their lives to dispose of these pipbombs should realize that if the action from the truck flipping didn't set them off, merely handling them wouldn't either.
    • crymeariver  •  10 mths ago
It is not racism, terrorism or any other ism, boy was going fishing for food. It is a quick way to catch enough to feed many people. Like it or not it is a way of life on the bayou, eat what you catch legal or not.

Sounds like fishing, people will always make stupid comments about things they don't understand. It's called ignorance!
    • crymeariver  •  10 mths ago
Folks it was not a terrorist, white supremacist or any other ist just a good ole boy going fishing, dynamite fishing but fishing all the same. Thing is you light it, toss it in the bayou and what ever floats up from the concussion you scoop up.

Oh ya looks like some illegal fishing activities. The game warden will soon be paying him a visit probably.
    • Eric1  •  10 mths ago
I'll wait for the official 'explanation,' but I agree, I think this is probably the ONE place in the world where I could believe they were intended for fishing. 'Dupont Spinners!'
