Pivot, a network for millennials, debuting Aug. 1

NEW YORK (AP) — Pivot is the name of a TV channel aimed at 15-to-34-year-olds who want to change the world.

Participant Media on Wednesday unveiled that name plus program details and an August 1 premiere date for its new venture. Initially Pivot will be available to more than 40 million subscribers.

Pivot president Evan Shapiro said the goal is entertainment that inspires social change and that the network will target the millennial generation. Otherwise, it will be a general entertainment network, he said.

It will be available as both a cable-TV channel, and an online service for viewers who subscribe to broadband service only.

Pivot is a division of Participant Media, which has produced more than 40 fiction and nonfiction films.
