    Plan to bring back Diving Horse in NJ scrapped

    ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — The owner of Steel Pier in Atlantic City, N.J., says he's dropping a plan to bring back the legendary Diving Horse after animal rights activists lodged fierce criticism.

    Anthony Catanoso's family owns the historic pier. He told the Associated Press on Tuesday that he's no longer interested in reviving an attraction that helped make the pier world famous last century. It would have involved a horse diving into a tank of water.

    Catanoso revived the act once before, in 1993, but shut it down after two months following similar protests.

    He had envisioned the Diving Horse as the centerpiece of a refurbished Steel Pier, part of an overall makeover of the gambling resort. Catanoso says his family would rather create new memories for tourists than revive old ones.

      I usually think a lot of animal rights activists are nut jobs, but I have to agree with them on this one. I can't think of many animals less suited to diving into a tank of water than a horse. It's just clumsy-looking and unnatural.

      I hate where the world is going where we can no longer enjoy the simple pleasure of watching a horse jump into the water. It's OK for us to push around the other countries of the world and get thousands of our young men and women killed in pointless wars; but, urge a trained horse to jump off a platform into water and the devil has risen. Twenty years ago these activists would have been laughing and applauding right alongside the rest of us. What hapened?!? The world's changed for the worst. How does the cow feel as it enters the slaughter house filled with the smell of death? How does the chicken feel under those harsh lights and confined quarters 24 hours a day for those few days until their egg production goes down and they are shipped off for fast food? How does the fish feel with a sharp hook embedded in it's jaws being pulled out of the water to slowly suffocate? How does the deer feel as it slowly bleeds to death after being shot? It's OK to torture and kill animals for food, but send a TRAINED horse into water and it's the end of humanity. Animal rights activists make me sick. They're composed mostly of bored middle aged vegan women, their hapless whipped followers of husbands, and their brainwashed children. I'd like to see them jump 40 feet into 12 feet of water while strapped to lead weights. Perhaps human on human violence would decrease if the dm@n activists would lighten up and allow people to laugh and enjoy life at the expence of a horse who's been trained to safely jump off a platform. Also, there doesn't seem to be any concern for the human who is taking the plunge at the same time. I don't feel it's right to place a higher value on an animal's safety than a human's. Oh well at least I can still go to the rodeo and watch as animals have their testicles tied up and unwillingly have a person strapped to their back digging spurs into it's sides and have it's butt brutally whipped. Animal rights is full of inconsistencies. I should be happy for them, they won a pointless battle that no one ever would have heard about if it wasn't for the dumb topics that yahoo chooses to cover. Thank you yahoo for giving me something to rant about that people will most likely never read.

        Not one word was in this saying the horses liked jumping off the pier into the water. Fact is they did.
