Plans for Astrodome's fate to be discussed

Harris County sports corporation to discuss renovation proposals for deteriorating Astrodome

HOUSTON (AP) -- The future of the historic but deteriorating Astrodome is once again being debated.

The Harris County Sports & Convention Corp. is meeting Wednesday in Houston to formally consider 19 plans that have been submitted for reusing the stadium.

The sports corporation's five-member board might choose what idea to recommend to Harris County Commissioners Court at its capital improvement programs meeting on June 25.

The sports corporation will also be presenting its own plan for the Astrodome. Last year it recommended to Harris County Commissioners Court a plan to renovate the Astrodome.

The stadium has been vacant since 2009, when it was deemed unfit for occupancy.

It hasn't been home to a sports team since the Houston Astros moved to their new downtown baseball stadium in 2000.
