Play these now: Two new iPhone games you can’t miss this week

Every weekday we share an updated collection of the best free iPhone and iPad apps, but it’s not often that we take the time to highlight our favorite paid apps. Today is different though, because two of the best mobile games of the year just launched on the App Store and Google Play, and you need to download them ASAP.

DON’T MISS: Fallout 4 revealed for PS4, Xbox One and PC – here’s the first trailer

First up is You Must Build a Boat, the spiritual sequel to the popular match-3/RPG hybrid 10000000. Here’s how it works: in You Must Build a Boat, you play as a character who has to fight his way through endless dungeons by matching blocks in order to complete quests. It’s not an especially novel idea, but the execution is what puts it over the top.

Each quest you complete will reward you with gold or new crew members to increase the size of your boat. You can use the gold to purchase upgrades from these crew members. It’s one of those “just one more run” kind of games, and you won’t want to put it down.

The second game that launched overnight is Hitman: Sniper, a game that I originally previewed over six months ago. It hasn’t changed all that much since I last played it, but Square Enix Montréal did abandon the free-to-play model in favor of an upfront price of $4.99. After playing for a few hours last night, I can assure you that it’s worth the price of admission.

I won’t rehash all the details of the game – you can read the preview for that – but there’s still nothing quite as satisfying as shooting a glass barrier as a guard leans over and watching him plunge to his doom.
