Following some construction hiccups that forced him to abandon his plan to open a microbrewery in Goose Hollow, brewer Tomas Sluiter is nearly set to open the doors to his five-barrel, five-vessel 7000-square-foot-microbrewery and 50-seat tasting room in the Bindery Annex in Kerns. Sluiter says he plans on rolling out a line of IPAs first, with a line of lambics and coffee-flavored beers to follow.

And while he won't provide food, Sluiter says quaffers can still order eats, via either Black Box Catering (which will make deliveries daily) or from an as-yet-unnamed on-premises food cart.

What he will offer, though, is sake, specifically draft Ginju-style sake. And to prove his commitment to the stuff, he plans on holding annual Chabudai Gaeshi contests. What are those? Without unpacking cultural and historical baggage, it's a table-flipping Japanese video game in which a visibly upset father belligerently upends the family's dining table.

Sluiter's contests will feature real tables set with plastic dishes, foods and a rubber chicken. Contestants will win prizes based on the quality of their verbal outbursts whilst upending those table, and on how far they can get that rubber bird to fly.

Look for Culmination Brewing Co.'s inaugural Chabudai Gaeshi to take place shortly after its doors open in late-October.
