LEPREAU, N.B. - New Brunswick's public utility company is reporting a heavy water spill at its nuclear power plant — the second such spill in less than six months.
NB Power says about 300 litres of heavy water spilled at the Point Lepreau nuclear power plant on Monday.
The Crown company says the spill happened when a relief valve opened prematurely.
The utility says the water has been recovered for reuse and there is no risk to workers, the public or the environment.
In December, four to six litres of radioactive heavy water spilled because of a leak at the plant, Atlantic Canada's only nuclear power facility.
People were evacuated in that incident but no one was hurt.
