Is Pokemon Go down?

Niantic and Nintendo launched Pokemon Go only a few weeks ago, yet there are quite a few hardcore fans who spend all of their free time playing the game. One of the worst things that can happen to them is for the servers to go down, which obviously means no more Pokemon Go action. So is Pokemon Go down right now? At the time of this writing, the servers had been online for four hours, which is both great and terribly annoying, depending on how you look at it.

Because there are millions of players around the world hunting creatures and fighting at gyms, and more people join the game with every new market Niantic enters, the servers are bound to go down. That’s why Niantic is yet to launch the game in Japan, and why it postponed the app's rumored launch. Japan probably houses the biggest community of Pokemon fans in the world, and many fans are eager to get on board. So, if adding countries like Canada brought the servers down a few days ago, we wouldn't be surprised to see the same thing happen following the app's release in Japan.

There’s a hilarious Reddit thread that explains exactly how annoying the problem can be. Imagine having 1,000 people show up for a Pokemon Go event only for the servers to go down. Yes, that actually happened just the other day.

Is Pokemon Go down? Not at this time, though you wouldn't know it from Niantic because the company doesn't offer users any updates on server status. So if you ever find yourself wondering if Pokemon Go won't load on your phone because of your own internet connect or due to a server outage, just head to this link so you can check out the status of the servers yourself before you throw a tantrum.
